The 5 ways To Open A Bank Account In Thailand
I was recently at a Kasikorn Bank in Phuket trying to help open up a bank account for my American partner when the manager said they need to fulfill at least 1 of these criteria:
- Their name is on the title of a house in Thailand
- Be a worker in Thailand
- Be a student in Thailand
There are many more different ways you can get the status necessary to open up a bank account in Thailand. Do your own research in case I am wrong or in case the laws change.
4. You can apply for the Thai elite status, I think you have to buy the $20,000 USD status and they give you a visa for 30 years to live in Thailand and make a Thai bank account too.
You cannot rent a house and open up a bank account.
I asked the manager. They said that’s not okay.
In order to get your name on the title of a house, you need to buy one.
If you are a foreigner and not a Thai citizen, they will not let you own the house. You will be leasing it for 30 years.
After 30 years, the house is taken back.
But I think that is enough for you to show them so you open a bank account.
I have not confirmed this but I think the 5th way for you to open a bank account is if you have a guardian visa of a child in school in Thailand.
I heard foreigners who have children in schools in Thailand can get the guardian visa as their parent so you can stay in Thailand with your child.
That might be enough to also open a bank account.
The points are very self-explanatory so you can google those points for further detail.
